I made this controller input tester since I keep repairing my PS3 and PS4 controllers and there isn't an easy way to check that they work correctly without launching a game or installing a wrapper to pass them off as xbox controllers, (like DS4W) which I don't want since they lose functionality in some buttons.

That's actually not true. Dualsensex can support playback through the controller's inbuilt speaker. In the settings of the app there is an option to have the audio play through either 'headset' or 'controller. This only works for dualsense controllers though, so still no luck of you play with a ds4.
I don't have a ps4 right now, so I'm trying to sell my controllers. I have a couple v1s, which when I plug in/connect to my computer I can easily see the values change for the touchpad. I have one v2 controller (God of War edition), and when I pair it up, the values are oriented differently on the computer.
I searched Google and found an HTML5 controller tester, where you plug your controller into your PC and it tells you if you have issues. While all other buttons gave perfect 100 results, I found that my R2 trigger was giving a reading of just 80. I’d never noticed this (probably gradual) decline until then.
First, some test methodology. I used 240fps video from an iPhone X, filmed the controller and screen from the same spot every time (both wired and wireless). I used a USB A to USB C cable for the dualsense which I plugged into the front USB A port on the PS5. I used a USB A to Micro USB cable for the DS4, also plugged into the same port.
I've personally been using DualSenseX for PlayStation controllers (outside of Steam or when playing games that handle support incorrectly), as it has been getting updates that add a ton of new features, and you can actually use gyro+flick-stick in Fortnite or any game with native PS4 controller support using Unreal Engine without being connected to a USB cable (Code Vein is one example where ...
I knew it. Didn’t do the test but I could tell that triggers and analogue sticks weren’t functioning to full tilt compared to my other DS4 (both v2). Thankfully was still within warranty so have sent the faulty one for replace/repair. The rumble motor was rattling around inside as well so all in all a bad controller.
In the controller config, there's a part that says "Rumble" then says "Motor" with a box next to it. Click that box. Click one of the motors in the list and press Select, then Test to make sure it's working. I know for DS4 controllers there are two motors, I just use one of them since the other one feels really strange.
