The Carroll County Courthouse in Carrollton, Georgia was built in 1928. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. [1] It is located at Newnan and Dixie Streets in Carrollton. It was designed by architect William J.J. Chase and was built by the Carr Construction Co. [2]
The roadway that would eventually become SR 51 was established at least as early as 1919 as part of SR 17 from Carnesville to Canon. [2] By the end of 1921, SR 17 was shifted eastward. SR 51 was established from SR 17 in Carnesville to SR 59 in Canon. [2] [3] By the end of 1926, this segment of SR 51 had a "sand clay or top soil" surface.
Carrollton featured in the 1983 TV movie Murder in Coweta County, although the Carrollton scenes were not actually filmed there. Other films shot in the Carrollton area include Conjurer with John Schneider, The Way Home with Dean Cain, and Between Love and a Hard Place with Bern Nadette Stanis. Carrollton was the home of actress Susan Hayward. [7]

The lands of Lee, Muscogee, Troup, Coweta, and Carroll counties were ceded by the Creek people in the Treaty of Indian Springs (1825).This was a huge amount of land in Georgia and Alabama, the last remaining portion of the Creeks' territory, and it was ceded by William McIntosh, the chief of the Lower Creek and a member of the National Council.
