Croft Castle is a country house in the village of Croft, Herefordshire, England. Owned by the Croft family since 1085, the castle and estate passed out of their hands in the 18th century, before being repurchased by the family in 1923.
Croft is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Croft and Yarpole, in north Herefordshire, England. [1] [2] In 1961 the parish had a population of 25. [3] On 1 April 1987 the parish was abolished and merged with Yarpole to form "Croft & Yarpole". [4] Croft Castle was built in the 14th century and was the seat of the Croft family.

The castle was built with a motte and two baileys, running along a north–south ridge, with a possible entrance to the east. The motte today is 13.5 wide, up to 7.5 m high and is surrounded by a 1.25 m deep ditch. The two baileys were probably linked to the motte by wooden bridges. Croft Ambrey, on Yatton Hill, is in the civil parish of Aymestrey, 6 miles (10 km) north from Leominster, 3.5 miles (6 km) south-east from the South Shropshire border, and approximately 7 miles (11 km) east from the Wales border. The fort is on high ground beyond and adjoining the north-east boundary of National Trust Croft Castle parkland.
