Fly By Night is a 1937 Australian radio serial by Max Afford. It was his first radio serial featuring Afford's detective hero, Jeffrey Blackburn. [1] In this serial he was not married to Elizabeth but they would be married for subsequent serials. [2] The play was published in book form in 1942 under the titles Fly By Night and Owl of Darkness.
Fly by Night was recorded during the last week of December 1974 and mixed in early January 1975 at Toronto Sound Studios during a gap in touring. [5] [4] [6] [7] Lifeson said it took around five days to record and once the mixing had finished, the group packed their cases and travelled to Winnipeg, starting their Fly By Night tour on January 15.
The band set out to record the song in one take; however, it ultimately required three separate takes. According to Lee, "We spent more time recording 'Strangiato' than the entire Fly by Night album. It was our first piece without any vocals at all. So each section had to stand up with a theme and musical structure of its own." [1]
