St. Francois County (/ ˈ f r æ n s ɪ s / FRAN-siss) is a county in the Lead Belt region in the U.S. state of Missouri. At the 2020 census , the population was 66,922. [ 1 ] The largest city and county seat is Farmington . [ 2 ]

St. Francois Township is an inactive township in St. Francois County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. [ 1 ] St. Francois Township takes its name from the county in which it is located.
In 1822, William Crawford Murphy contributed 52 acres (210,000 m 2) of land here for the county seat of what was soon to be St. Francois County. Murphy's Settlement was renamed Farmington in 1825, taking the name from the area's rich farm land. [5] Farmington was granted incorporation as a town in 1836 and became a village 20 years later in 1856.
The plant was built by the Federal Lead Co. in 1906-1907 and subsequently bought by competitor St. Joseph Lead Company in 1923. The mill was retired in 1972 as much of the ore in the area had been mined and major operations were moving west. [5] In 1975, the land was donated to the state of Missouri for recreational use.
Lake Timberline is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States.The community is built around several reservoirs built in the valleys of Bee Run and Primrose Creek, southwest-flowing tributaries of the Big River, which in turn flows northwest to the Meramec River.
Libertyville is an unincorporated community in southeastern St. Francois County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. [1] The community is located on Missouri Route DD, east of Knob Lick and north of Mine La Motte. The village is situated at the headwaters of the Little Saint Francis River. [2]
