The estate was acquired by the state of Florida in 1985. The estate is owned by the State of Florida and is managed by the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department. Palmetto Estates is located 15 miles (24 km) southwest of downtown Miami at (25.619782, -80.361752 It is bordered to the east by the village of Palmetto Bay.It is otherwise bordered by unincorporated communities: Kendal and Richmond Heights to the north, and West Perrine to the south.
