Cal Poly won 77-73 to advance to the Final Four, with a crowd of 3,217 (at the time a facility record for basketball [11]) in attendance. Mott Athletics Center hosted the 1994 and 2005 Pac-10 Wrestling Championships, with the total attendance for the latter two-day four-session event totaling 7,738.
It is the home field of the Cal Poly Mustangs football and soccer teams. The stadium was renovated largely from funding from alumnus Alex Spanos (1923–2018), an American billionaire real estate developer, founder of the A. G. Spanos Companies , and majority owner of the San Diego Chargers of the National Football League (NFL).
In 1994, Cal Poly would make the jump to Division I-AA (now Football Championship Subdivision) with head coach Andre Patterson at the helm. The Mustangs would see moderate success, posting a 7–4 record in Patterson's first year followed by two 5–6 seasons before Patterson departed for a position as an NFL line coach.

The 2024 Cal Poly Mustangs football team represented the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo as a member of the Big Sky Conference during the 2024 NCAA Division I FCS football season. Led by second-year head coach Paul Wulff, the Mustangs played home games at Mustang Memorial Field in San Luis Obispo, California.

The stadium opened on January 21, 2001, with the Mustangs defeating #11-ranked Stanford 6–5 in 12 innings in front of a crowd of 3,110 fans. [3] [4] The stadium originally had a usual, day-to-day capacity of 1,734 [5] before later expansion, and is part of an encompassing 47-acre (190,000 m 2) Upper Sports Complex which is also home to the Mustang softball team.
