The Malabar danio (Devario malabaricus) ispecies of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Danionidae. Originating in Sri Lanka and the west coast of India, the fish has been circulated throughout the world through the aquarium fish trade. It grows to a maximum length of 6 in (15 cm) but rarely exceeds 4 in (10 cm) in a home aquarium.
The only Danio species to have been consistently called Danio were D. dangila and D. feegradei. As D. dangila was the first discovered Danio (or type) the name Danio had to remain with D. dangila, which is why the vast majority of species were moved to Devario.
