Kent Range (Kazakh: Кент тауы) is a range of mountains in Karkaraly District, Karaganda Region, Kazakhstan. [1] Karkaraly city lies 20 kilometers (12 mi) to the northwest of the northern slopes of the Kent Mountains. Part of the range is included in the Karkaraly National Park, a protected area established in 1998.

The range stretches from north to south for about 200 kilometers (120 mi). Its highest point is 1,131 meters (3,711 ft) high Akmeshit. The range extends for about 420 kilometres (260 mi) in a roughly NW/SE direction just north of the Syr Darya. The Muyunkum Desert lies to the north of the range. The Karatau is the westernmost prolongation of the Tian Shan. The summits of the mountains are smooth and the slopes are cut by snow-fed rivers. [3]
The name Karkaraly means "arrow-headed" in the Kazakh language [2] Karkaraly city lies at the feet of the eastern slopes of the mountains and Karagaily village, a little further east. A large sector of the range is part of the Karkaraly National Park, a 112,120 hectares (277,100 acres) protected area established in 1998. [3] [4]
On this side lies the highest summit of the range, the double-headed Belukha, whose summits reach 4,506 m (14,783 ft) and 4,400 m (14,400 ft) respectively, and give origin to several glaciers and glaciokarst formations (30 km 2 (12 sq mi) in aggregate area, as of 1911). [4] Altaians call it Kadyn Bazhy, but is also called Uch-Sumer. [5]
