Texas County is a county located in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 24,487. [2] Its county seat is Houston. [3] The county was organized in 1843 as Ashley County. Its name was changed in 1845 to Texas County, after the Republic of Texas.

Cass Township is a township in Texas County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. [2] Cass Township was originally called "Benton Township", and under the latter name was established in 1845, and named after Thomas Hart Benton. [3] The present name, adopted in 1850, honors Lewis Cass. [3]
Missouri was the first state entirely west of the Mississippi River to be admitted to the Union. The state capital moved to Jefferson City in 1826.
