Jefferson County is a county located in the Big Bend region in the northern part of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,510. [1] Its county seat is Monticello. [2] Jefferson County is part of the Tallahassee, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area but is the 3rd most rural county in Florida. [3]
The Monticello Historic District is a U.S. Historic District (designated as such on August 19, 1977) located in Monticello, Florida. The district includes an irregular area along Madison, Jefferson, Dogwood, and Washington Streets and contains 41 historic buildings. Contributing properties in the district include:
McBride was reportedly the father of Caroline (McBride) Murray and the grandfather of Margaret (Murray) May (1829-1898) who married Asa May (1820-1878). May was one of the wealthiest planters in North Florida, at one time owning more than 3,000 acres of land in Jefferson County alone. [3]

The Lyndhurst Plantation is a historic slave plantation in unincorporated Jefferson County, Florida. It is located 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Monticello, off Ashville Road. On April 2, 1973, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
