Warren County was created in 1807 from a portion of White County, and named for Joseph Warren (1741–1775), a militiaman and major general in the American Revolution. [1] The revised Tennessee State Constitution of 1834 stated that no new county could be within 12 miles (19 km) of the county seat of the county from which it was formed.
The Tennessee Historical Commission, which manages the state's participation in the National Register program, reports that 80 percent of the state's area has been surveyed for historic buildings. Surveys for archaeological sites have been less extensive; coverage is estimated less than 5 percent of the state.
Falcon Rest, also known as the Clay Faulkner House, is a historic house in Warren County, Tennessee. It was built in 1896-1897 for Clay Faulkner, the son of politician and mill owner Asa Faulkner, who lived at Falconhurst. [2] Faulkner lived in the house with his wife, Mary King Saunders, and their five children. [2]
The Holliston Mills site, a Mississippian town in Upper East Tennessee, is located on the north bank of the Holston River south of Kingsport in Hawkins County, Tennessee. The site was excavated by members of the Tennessee Archaeological Society between 1968 and 1972.
