There are 600+ students at the school, which has risen from 400 when it was a middle school. [1] In January 2015 it was announced that Long Field Academy would be joining with the Spencer Academies Trust. This trust is made of eight schools and was led, until her retirement, by Dame Susan Jowett of George Spencer Academy Nottinghamshire.

Oliver was born in Nottingham in 1927, the son of architect W. Norman Oliver. [4] [5] In the late 1930s, his family lived in Pinner, Middlesex, where he attended Longfield Primary School in Rayners Lane and then went to Harrow County School for Boys between 1938 and 1942.
