Jujube (UK / ˈ dʒ uː dʒ uː b /; US / ˈ dʒ u dʒ u b / or / ˈ dʒ u dʒ ə b iː / [5]), sometimes jujuba, scientific name Ziziphus jujuba, and also called red date, Chinese date, and Chinese jujube, [6] is a species in the genus Ziziphus in the buckthorn family Rhamnaceae.
The fruit is an edible drupe, often very sweet and sugary, reminiscent of a date in texture and flavour. Well known species include the commonly cultivated Ziziphus jujuba , Ziziphus spina-christi from southwestern Asia, Ziziphus lotus from the Mediterranean region, and ber (Ziziphus mauritiana), which is found from western Africa to India.

The John S. and Elizabeth Beem Holmes Barn is a historic building located on a farm southwest of St. Charles, Iowa, United States. The Holmes' settled in Madison County in 1854 from Indiana . Their initial 40-acre (16 ha) farm eventually expanded to a 350 acres (140 ha).
It is headquartered at the 890-acre (3.6 km 2) Heritage Farm, [1] located six miles from Decorah, Iowa. [4] Heritage Farm was originally purchased in 1986. [ 5 ] A certified organic farm, Heritage is called the "most diverse farm in the world" by ethnobotanist Gary Paul Nabhan .
It is a spreading, sometimes climbing, thorny shrub growing to 1.5 m in height. The leaves are simple, alternate, ovate-lanceolate, acute and oblique. The flowers are green, in subsessile axillary cymes. The fruit is a globose drupe, black and shiny when ripe, containing a single seed. [2] The leaf length is 4-6.5 cm, width is 2–3 cm. [3]
