Charles Carroll (September 19, 1737 – November 14, 1832), known as Charles Carroll of Carrollton or Charles Carroll III, [2] was an American politician, planter, and signatory of the Declaration of Independence. He was the only Catholic signatory of the Declaration and the longest surviving, dying 56 years after its signing. [3]

Samuel Whittemore Jr. (July 27, 1696 – February 2, 1793) [1] [2] was an American farmer and soldier. He was 78 years old [ 3 ] when he became the oldest known colonial combatant in the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783).
He was the last living African American veteran of the Revolutionary War at the time and the oldest person buried in Elmwood Cemetery. [ 33 ] [ 34 ] His last known living descendant was Gertrude Robinson, his granddaughter, who died in Ohio in 1983.
Timothy Murphy (c. 1751 – c. 1818) was an American soldier who fought during the Revolutionary War. In the Saratoga campaign, Murphy is reputed to have shot and killed British Army officers Sir Francis Clerke and Simon Fraser. Murphy's life is the subject of a 1953 novel titled The Rifleman.

[1] [needs update] As of January 6, 2025, it lists the oldest living American as Naomi Whitehead (born in Georgia on September 26, 1910, and now residing in Greenville, Pennsylvania), aged 114 years, 102 days.
