This season follows Yugi and Joey as they compete in Seto Kaiba's Battle City tournament, which was organized in an attempt to gather the three Egyptian God Cards. However, Marik Ishtar, and his loyal Rare Hunter servants, also enter the tournament as part of his plan to use the power of the God cards to take over the world.
The player views their hand and selects the "Hourglass of Courage" monster card. The gameplay begins with a dialogue between Seto Kaiba and Simon McMooran. First, McMooran allows the player to choose from several starter decks with a lead deck leader; each deck leader is dealt in threes, based on the name that McMooran requests at the beginning of the game.

Seto Kaiba, a new student in Yugi's class, is a Duel Monsters expert and the head of a company known as Kaiba Corporation. After he steals the rare Blue-Eyes White Dragon card from Yugi's grandfather, Yami Yugi challenges Kaiba to a duel where the monsters from the cards are real. The game ends in a tie, and Yugi gets his grandpa's card back.
