DALL-E, DALL-E 2, and DALL-E 3 (stylised DALL·E, and pronounced DOLL-E) are text-to-image models developed by OpenAI using deep learning methodologies to generate digital images from natural language descriptions known as prompts. The first version of DALL-E was announced in January 2021. In the following year, its successor DALL-E 2 was released.
Above: An image classifier, an example of a neural network trained with a discriminative objective. Below: A text-to-image model, an example of a network trained with a generative objective. Since its inception, the field of machine learning used both discriminative models and generative models, to model and predict data.
An important example of this is fine-tuning models to follow instructions, which is of course a fairly broad task but more targeted than a foundation model. In January 2022, OpenAI introduced "InstructGPT"—a series of models which were fine-tuned to follow instructions using a combination of supervised training and reinforcement learning from ...
In March 2023, Bing incorporated Image Creator, an AI image generator powered by OpenAI's DALL-E 2, which can be accessed either through the chat function or a standalone image-generating website. [41] In October, the image-generating tool was updated to use the more recent DALL-E 3. [42]
Last December, OpenAI said it was testing reasoning AI models, o3 and o3 mini, indicating growing competition with rivals such as Alphabet's Google to create smarter models capable of tackling ...
OpenAI has unveiled a preview of its new o3 reasoning models, which, CEO Sam Altman said immodestly, begin the “next phase” of AI. The models, announced Friday, did so well on a prominent ...
During its first developer conference held in San Francisco on Monday, OpenAI unveiled a series of artificial intelligence tool updates, including the ability for developers to create custom ...
OpenAI o3 is a reflective generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) model developed by OpenAI as a successor to OpenAI o1. It is designed to devote additional deliberation time when addressing questions that require step-by-step logical reasoning. [1] [2] OpenAI released a smaller model, o3-mini, on January 31st, 2025.
