Bonsall is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Diego County, California. The population was 4,546 at the 2020 census , up from 3,982 at the 2010 census . The Bonsall area was heavily affected by the Lilac Fire in December 2017, which burned 4,100 acres.
Bonsall Unified School District (BUSD) was established on February 26, 2013 to serve the communities of an 88 square mile area covering portions of Oceanside, Fallbrook, Bonsall and the Pala Indian Reservation. [3] Since its founding, the district has undergone several transformations to meet the evolving needs of the community.

The Lilac Road Bridge is a reinforced concrete arch bridge in Bonsall, California, built in 1978 at a cost of $1,500,000. [1] Its main span is 455 feet (139 m), with a total length of 745 feet (227 m). It was designed by Fred G. Michaels and John Suwada, with architecture consulting by William Wells.
By 1936, US 395 was signed along what would become SR 76 through Bonsall, as part of the route between Elsinore and San Diego. [29] [30] In 1943, work began on widening the approaches to the Bonsall bridge. [31] US 395 had been shifted east away from Bonsall by 1949. [32] [33] SR 76 was signed by 1954. [34]

The district currently has six neighborhood-assignment high schools, six neighborhood-assignment middle schools, and thirty-six neighborhood-assignment elementary and primary schools along with various continuation and alternative schools.
Prior to 1936, students who lived in coastal North County attended high school in Oceanside.In January 1936, the communities of Encinitas, Cardiff, Solana Beach, Del Mar, Green Valley, and Olivenhain voted in favor to form a new high school district. [5]
