It is one of two medical programs in Canada, along with the University of Calgary, that operates on an accelerated 3-year MD program, instead of the traditional 4-year MD program. The size of its incoming medical classes was increased to 80 students in 1974, 120 students in 1980, and 128 students in 2000.
