Even though it was raced as a private entry, Mitchell was pressured by GM to withdraw the car from competition in accord with the AMA ban. He eventually acquiesced, and the Stingray was retired from racing.
The '61 Corvette tail was given two additional tail lights (six total) for the concept car.
