For those of you that have used or seen the difference between the Garmin GT54UHD and GT56UHD transducers, can you share an opinion on whether the GT56UHD is worth the extra cost? With the incredible sale prices on the GT54UHD units, they are a huge savings over the newer GT56UHD units.
Im considering picking up a Garmin 740s. My boat has an older Furuno sonar display and AirMar cable C32....c1225. Reason being, I want to be able to easily meter the water in 600+ feet of water for rockfish and the B175HW seems like it would come up a bit short in its ability to cleanly meter the bottom at that depth. Gents - recently bought a GPSMAP 942XS Plus while waiting for a new rig to arrive. There is a multitude of transducers available for this unit. Any input appreciated - which ones you use, etc. thanks
Edit: the transducers you are listing are 600w and 350w transducers. Your MFD is capable of pushing a 1K transducer. You might want to consider the later but of course there is a premium + - $700. I starting to look into upgrade path for my Garmin 4210 and 4208 displays. I have a GSD24 sounder with two transducers on a switch (B744 thru-hull and M260 in wet box) and a Garmin GMR18 radar that will most likely stay. I like the 8610 and 8610xsv. I'm totally confused by all the built-in sounder, black box sounders and transducer choices.
According to Garmin, the chirped frequency is mid band at 80-160 KHz and not a fixed 50/200 Hz frequency. Its a mid frequency chirped transducer and not a single frequency fixed transducer. There is a difference. With a single 50/200 KHz transducer, you can get much deeper at 50KHz.

My sounder is the old school Furuno fvl 582l. You gotta spend the time to dial in the transom mount,but that makes all the difference. I know someone else using a P66 w/aGarmin sounder and they sound very happy w/it. Just looking at what might be the next step up for the Garmin741xs, w/out paying for a side-scan now.
