The island of Porto Santo was the first of the Madeira Islands to obtain an airport. In 1959, [2] its runway was built with an initial length of 2,000 m (6,600 ft). The first aircraft to land at this airport was a TAP Air Portugal Douglas DC-4, on 20 July 1960.

Aeroporto is a light rail station on the Porto Metro system in the municipality of Maia, Portugal. It was built to serve Porto Airport, and is situated immediately outside the main terminal of that airport. It is currently home to the Castello di Rivoli – Museo d'Arte Contemporanea, the museum of contemporary art of Turin. In 1997, it was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list along with 13 other residences of the House of Savoy .
