WJZZ dropped the call letters to become WPSB on September 13, 1971; the station changed later to WEZN-FM. In 1974, the WJZZ call letters landed on Detroit station WCHD-FM. WJZZ (105.9 FM) was a popular classic jazz/jazz fusion station in Detroit and became one of the first U.S. stations ever to use the smooth jazz format.

Another competitor arrived in 1996 at the 105.9 frequency, the former Jazz-formatted WJZZ. It became WCHB-FM "The Beat", and later WDTJ "105.9 Jamz" (now urban AC-formatted WDMK "105.9 Kiss-FM"). FM 98 WJLB was known for its specialty Friday mix shows, with songs dating back to the 1980s, hosted by the DJ known as the "Electrifying Mojo."
On August 9, 2018, the urban gospel format from WPZR officially moved to WDMK-HD2 and rebranded as the Detroit Praise Network, simulcast on three translators: W228CJ (93.5 FM), W252BX (98.3 FM) and W260CB (99.9 FM). [7] On August 30, 2021, W228CJ flipped to Fox Sports Radio as "The Roar", and is now fed by WCSX-HD2.
