At the end of the Lý and the Trần dynasty there were many people who changed their names to Nguyễn and Nguyễn Phí. By the Lê dynasty, the court changed the name of the district to Kim Thành. When the Mạc dynasty fell in 1592, their descendants changed their family name to Nguyễn.

Nguyễn Thượng Hiền (阮 尚 賢; 1865–1925) was a Vietnamese scholar-gentry anti-colonial revolutionary activist who advocated independence from French colonial rule. He was a contemporary of Phan Bội Châu and Phan Châu Trinh and was regarded as the most prominent northerner of his generation of scholar-gentry activists.
Nguyễn Huy Thiệp (Hanoi, 29 April 1950 – 20 March 2021) was a Vietnamese writer. [1] He has been described as Vietnam's most influential writer. [ 2 ] In 1992, before Bảo Ninh (1993) and Dương Thu Hương (1996), he was the first to write a major novel taking the gloss off the " American War " experience.
