The Social Democratic Party of Albania (Albanian: Partia Socialdemokrate e Shqipërisë, PSD or PSDSH) is a minor social-democratic [2] [3] political party in Albania. Its founder is Skënder Gjinushi, a former Minister of Education (1987–1991) and Speaker of Parliament (1997–2001).
Its first editor was Svetozar Marković Toza who was later executed by the Axis occupation authorities on February 9, 1943, and subsequently proclaimed a people's hero by the Yugoslav post-World War II communist authorities. On January 1, 1953, the newspaper's name was officially changed to Dnevnik.
In the 1992 elections the party received 2.9% of the national vote and won a single seat. [6] They joined a coalition with the Democratic Party, but had little influence on the policies being shaped. The 1996 elections saw the party almost double its share of the vote to 5.9%, winning three seats. [6]
