Hartford Public Schools (HPS) is a school district serving the city of Hartford, Connecticut. Hartford Public Schools is the largest public school district in Connecticut, serving 46 magnet and non-magnet schools in the district. The graduation rate for Hartford public schools in 2016–2017 was 68.8%, lower than the state average of 87.9%.
It is one of four schools located on the 16-acre (65,000 m 2) campus of The Learning Corridor. The Capital Region Education Council (CREC) has managed the school since it was established in 1985. Students attend their home district’s school for classes in the morning and then attend the Academy in the afternoon for arts education.
The high school cost $125.8 million to build, making it the most expensive school in the state of Connecticut at the time. [2] Since it is a magnet school, the state taxpayers paid $119 million of the costs. The school was built on both Trumbull and Bridgeport's land, but the campus was later given to Bridgeport. [3]
