Wapsipinicon State Park is located south of Anamosa, Iowa, United States. The 394-acre (159 ha) park is along the sandstone and limestone bluffs of the Wapsipinicon River, from which it derives its name. Jones County is a county in the U.S. state of Iowa.As of the 2020 census the population was 20,646. [1] The county seat is Anamosa. [2] The county was founded in 1837 and named after George Wallace Jones, a United States senator and member of Congress.
Hale Bridge is a historic structure located south of Anamosa, Iowa, United States. It spans the Wapsipinicon River for 296 feet (90 m). [2] It is an example of a bowstring through-arch truss bridge. Perhaps thousands of these bridges were built in Iowa in the late 1860s through the 1870s. However, by 1992, fewer than twenty survive. [3]
The bridge has been moved twice, first in 1930 to span Buffalo Creek, and again in 1986. As of 1994, it served to bring a pedestrian path over a small pond in Jones County's Central Park, in Jackson Township, Iowa, about 7 miles (11 km) west of Anamosa. [2] The Fremont Mill Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. [1]
