All public schools and many private schools in Bangladesh follow the curriculum of NCTB. Starting in 2010, every year free books are distributed to students between Grade-1 to Grade-10 to eliminate illiteracy. There are schools in Bangladesh that educates people of different backgrounds. This include International Schools with English or French as a medium of instruction, religiously affiliated schools, and schools teaching the national curriculum using Bengali or English as a medium of instruction.
The English-medium schools teach most of the subjects in English. Bengali is a respected subject taught in these schools. The St Francis Xavier's Green Herald International School also teaches French to its students from Class 5 onwards and International School Dhaka having Spanish and French taught.
They are responsible for conducting the examinations for the Secondary School Certificate (S.S.C) and the Higher Secondary (School) Certificate (H.S.C) level public examinations. S.S.C examination refers to 10th grade exams and H.S.C refers to 12th grade.
