Calcium acetate is a chemical compound which is a calcium salt of acetic acid. It has the formula Ca(C 2 H 3 O 2) 2. Its standard name is calcium acetate, while calcium ethanoate is the systematic name. An older name is acetate of lime. The anhydrous form is very hygroscopic; therefore the monohydrate (Ca(CH 3 COO) 2 •H 2 O) is the common form.
Sodium calcium edetate's primary use is to treat lead poisoning, [2] for which it is an alternative to succimer. [3] It is given by slow injection into a vein or into a muscle. [2] For lead encephalopathy sodium calcium edetate is typically used together with dimercaprol. [3] It may also be used to treat plutonium poisoning. [5]
Sevelamer is used in the management of hyperphosphatemia in adult patients with stage 4 and 5 chronic kidney disease (CKD) on hemodialysis. Its efficacy at lowering phosphate levels is similar to that of calcium acetate, but without the accompanying risk of hypercalcemia and arterial calcification.
The so-called boxed warning, issued on Friday, comes after the health regulator in 2022 started a review into the risk of very low blood calcium in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease ...
Calcium acetate and magnesium carbonate compounds bind phosphorus derived from food thereby forming indigestible phosphate salts in the intestine that are subsequently excreted with the faeces. The aim of the therapy is to reach a normal serum phosphorus level, i.e. between 0.81 and 1.45 mmol/L (2.5–4.5 mg/dL).
Calcium acetate: Lenal Ace: Aluminum free: Calcium containing-potential risk of hypercalcemia and ectopic calcification PhosLo: Higher efficacy than calcichew/sevelamer: Parathyroid hormone oversuppression Moderately cheap: Gastrointestinal side effects Lower calcium load than calcium carbonate: Large tablets & capsules, nonchewable formulation
[34] [35] Calcium carbonate as a calcium supplement source has several benefits compared to other forms like calcium citrate, lactate, or gluconate, because of highest content of elemental calcium by weight (40%), providing more calcium per dose compared to other forms. It is the least expensive form of calcium, making it a cost-effective ...
This is due to the combination of two active ingredients found in this version of Burow's solution, i.e. aluminum sulfate tetradecahydrate and calcium acetate monohydrate. [8] [9] [10] The solution is used by some to reduce inflammation and potential infection from conditions such as ingrown nails, in a warm water soak. [11]
