FM 1466 was cancelled on February 21, 1952, and eliminated from the highway system. The route became FM 1266 once right of way was acquired.

The 96-foot-tall, 3,236-foot-long roller coaster is built on a 1-acre footprint, making it one of the most compact roller coasters in the world.
On July 9, 1945, the road was extended south and east to Kemah via Pearland and League City, but the US 75-Brazoria County line portion was cancelled on January 18, 1946 (to free up funds for construction of remaining FM roads in the county), creating a gap.
State Highway 6 (SH 6) runs from the Red River, the Texas–Oklahoma state line, to northwest of Galveston, where it is known as the Old Galveston Highway.In Sugar Land and Missouri City, it is known as Alvin-Sugarland Road and runs perpendicular to Interstate 69/U.S. Highway 59 (I-69/US 59).
