Ferger Place Historic District in Chattanooga, Tennessee was so named and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. "Ferger Place" was founded in 1910 as the first exclusively White [ 2 ] gated community ("restricted private park" [ 3 ] ) south of the Mason–Dixon line .
In the 1880s, the fort and surrounding land was auctioned off. In time, Fort Wood became one of Chattanooga's finest residential neighborhoods. Large, fashionable homes soon appeared in the Queen Anne, Tudor Revival, and Romanesque Revival styles. Fort Wood's revitalization began with the Warner House at the corner of Vine and Palmetto Streets.
That year, the community of Ross's Landing was surveyed, and in 1839 the village of Chattanooga was established north of the mouth of Chattanooga Creek. In 1840, the state of Tennessee began to sell the property formerly owned by the Cherokees at the rate of $7.50 an acre.

[1] The people of Chattanooga began to raise the level of a few of the city's streets by 3 to 15 feet. Around 40 blocks of downtown Chattanooga were raised.
The three routes continue eastward along West Main Street to South Willow Street where SR 17 turns north on the aforementioned street and US 41/US 76 continues eastward. It then proceeds northward through the neighborhoods of west-central and north-west Chattanooga before coming to an end at SR 58/SR 153/SR 317. [2]
