The festival takes place in mid-June. In 2016, the Festival took place on June 10–19, beginning with the Minnesota Fixed Gear Classic, June 10–11. The event consisted of velodrome racing at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota. The marquee event of the Festival is the North Star Grand Prix, a professional bicycle stage race.
The 2014 Special Olympics USA Games were held from June 14 to 21 in New Jersey. [4] The Opening Ceremony was held at Prudential Center in Newark. [5] [6] Competition was held at venues throughout Mercer County including The College of New Jersey in the Trenton suburb of Ewing, [7] Rider University, Princeton University and Mercer County Park.

From May 9–11, 2014, a WNBA pre-season tournament consisting of four teams was held alongside an AAU girls basketball tournament at the complex, with the Minnesota Lynx winning the tournament over the Chicago Sky 76–69. [20] While the Citrus Bowl was under repairs, the Orlando City Soccer Club played its 2014 home games at the complex. [21]
