In the 1850s, Augusta was the site for the trial and hanging of the outlaw James Copeland. [8] In the 1890s, Davis Hawthorne was hanged in Augusta for the murder of his wife. [2] When the Mobile, Jackson, and Kansas City Railroad [9] was constructed 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Augusta, the town was moved to the railroad and developed as New Augusta.

The Bay City Downtown Historic District consists of 91 structures: 90 of which are commercial, and one government building. Sixty-seven of the buildings contribute to the historic character of the district. The district occupies about 16-1/2 square blocks in the northwest portion of Bay City's downtown.
The Center Avenue Neighborhood Residential District is a residential historic district located in Bay City, Michigan, running primarily along Center, Fifth, and Sixth Avenues between Monroe and Green Avenues, with additional portions of the district along Fourth between Madison and Johnson, down to Tenth Avenue between Madison and Lincoln, along Green to Ridge, and around Carroll Park.
