In 1890, René Lalique opened a jewelry store in the Opéra district of Paris. While working in this new shop, some of René Lalique's most famous jewelry designs were created, as well as his experimentation and use of glass. The main motif of Lalique's jewelry design was the natural world.
The company is best known for the production of artistic glass works and fragrances such as Lalique Encre Noire, primarily using crystal (lead glass) since the mid-twentieth century. The addition of perfumes (in 1992) [ 4 ] and non-glass decorative items and art (since 2011) [ 4 ] are recent additions to Lalique's product line.
Lalique would later become a defining figure in the art nouveau movement. The business left the hands of the Aucoc family in 1932. Louis Aucoc married Micheline Louise Isaiah Rondeleux on 4 June 1872 [ 3 ] and had three children - Georges who will marry the actress Odette Talazac , René and a daughter Marie Louise who married André la Ferté.
He was born in Barnstaple, North Devon, the son of David Partridge (a pharmacist) and his wife Mary Ann Hunt. [3] His elder sister Ethel Mairet (1872-1952) (née Partridge) [4] was a notable weaver, textile designer and dyer who wrote several books on hand-weaving.
