In particular, the provinces of Vorarlberg, Tyrol and Salzburg offer one or more ski resorts in almost every Alpine valley, equipped with numerous lifts (cable cars, chair lifts, T-bar lifts). The large ski areas in the Austrian Alps have 50 or more different lifts and sometimes more than 100 km of groomed slopes.
The Ski Arlberg ski area is situated in the Arlberg massif in the states of Vorarlberg and Tyrol ().. Since the winter of 2013–14, the villages of Lech, Oberlech, Zürs and Zug have been linked to the Warth-Schröcken ski area which makes Ski Arlberg the largest connected ski area in Austria.
The Silvretta Montafon ski area is located in the south of Vorarlberg, the westernmost province of Austria, and extends over 17 km and 1,700 meters in altitude from Schruns via Silbertal and St. Gallenkirch to Gaschurn. It lies in the Montafon valley, framed by the Rätikon, Silvretta and Verwall mountain ranges.
The ski area Damüls-Mellau extends at an altitude between 700 m (village Mellau) and 2,050 m (mountain station Ragazer Blanken) in the rear Bregenzerwald. The villages in and around the ski resort are Damüls (1,430 m) and Mellau (688m). From Mellau, a detachable 10-seater gondola lift leads up to the ski area and the Roßstelle.
Today, the contiguous ski resorts on three mountains around Lech and Zürs, the Arena on Gampen, Kapall, Galzig and Valluga above St. Anton and St. Christoph, form a ski resort with 87 lifts, 305 km of groomed slopes and 200 km of deep snow slopes. [2] Thanks to the many winter sports enthusiasts, tourism at the Arlberg is of great importance.
Zürs (1716 meters above sea level) is one of the most renowned winter sports resorts in the Alps. Located in the westernmost Austrian state of Vorarlberg, almost directly on the border to North Tyrol, near the Flexenpass, Zürs is part of the Arlberg region, which also includes Lech, Oberlech, Zug, and Stubenbach.
The ski resorts Silvretta Montafon and Ski Arlberg (which is partly located in Tyrol) are the two largest ski areas in Vorarlberg. Ski Arlberg is the largest connected ski area in Austria since the season of 2016/17. It offers 305 km of slopes and 111 lifts.
