Phu Quoc International Airport (IATA: PQC, ICAO: VVPQ) is an international airport that serves Phú Quốc Island, in southern Vietnam. It covers nearly 900 hectares of land area in the commune of Dương Tơ , about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) south of the administrative centre of Phú Quốc City.
Initially built by the French colonists as Moranc Airfield at Quản Long town, An Xuyên province (now Cà Mau City) with the runway of 400 m long and 16 m wide.. June 1962, Bureau of Aviation of the Republic of Vietnam rebuilt this airfield in an area of 91.61 hectares, the runway of 1050m x 30m, the apron 60m x 120 m and renamed it Quan Long Airport (Phi trường Quản Long).
Vietnam has announced a new master plan to upgrade the airport with a 3,050-meter second runway, a new terminal, and a new apron by 2015. The existing runway will also be upgraded. After the expansion, the airport will be capable of serving up to 4–5 million passengers a year.
International services at the airport commenced in 2014 with scheduled flights by Vietnam Airlines to Vientiane, Laos using ATR 72 airplanes. Despite a strong demand on road between Vinh and Vientiane with up to 180,000 people passing through border ports in Nghe An province annually, the air service only saw 50% load factor against a 10,000-seat annual capacity.
