Pinar del Río is 56 km (by road) to the south-west. [2] It stands near the western end and at the foot of sierra de Rosarios, on the south side of that mountain range. The La Güira national park (in Spanish Parque nacional La Güira) is to the north of San Diego de los Baños. [3]
The village counts a little port and a road linking it to the villages in Guanahacabibes peninsula. It is mainly famous to be the western starting point of the Carretera Central, a highway spanning the length of the island of Cuba for 1,435 km (892 mi), that ends in the city of Baracoa, Guantánamo Province.
The Pinar del Río province is Cuba's westernmost province and contains one of Cuba's three main mountain ranges, the Cordillera de Guaniguanico, divided into the easterly Sierra del Rosario and the westerly Sierra de los Órganos. These form a landscape characterised by steep sided limestone hills (called mogotes) and flat, fertile valleys.
Entronque de Herradura is one of thirteen villages and consejo popular ("people's council", i.e. hamlet) belonging to the municipality of Consolación del Sur, in Pinar del Río Province, Cuba. It has a land extension of 1.280 km² (0.494 square of miles).
