Wenatchee (/ w ɛ ˈ n æ tʃ iː / weh-NATCH-ee) is the county seat and most populous city of Chelan County, Washington, United States. [5] The population within the city limits in 2010 was 31,925, [6] and has increased to 35,508 as of 2020. [7]
The county seat and largest city is Wenatchee. [2] The county was created out of Okanogan and Kittitas Counties on March 13, 1899. [ 3 ] [ 4 ] It derives its name from a Chelan Indian word meaning "deep water," likely a reference to 55-mile (89 km)-long Lake Chelan , which reaches a maximum depth of 1,486 feet (453 m).
A new hospital, named Cascade Valley, was built at the current campus in 1958, and was incorporated into the Snohomish County Public Hospital District No. 3 in 1964. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The hospital campus was rebuilt in 1987, and the district later expanded to cover most of northern Snohomish County in 1996.
