Public-key cryptography / asymmetric cryptography, signing. A message that is signed (encrypted) with the private key can be verified (decrypted) with the public key. Since the public key is public, anyone can verify the signature. The public key cannot create such signatures. Security depends on the secrecy of the private key.
This SVG diagram contains embedded raster graphics. Such images are liable to produce inferior results when scaled to different sizes (as well as possibly being very inefficient in file size). If appropriate to do so, they should be replaced with images created using vector graphics.
This is a Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) image of a registered trademark or copyrighted logo. If non-free content restrictions apply, this image should not be rendered any larger than is required for the purposes of identification and/or critical commentary.
This image is part in a series of images showing the four basic public-key cryptography operations: Creating a key pair, encrypting, signing, and creating a shared secret. Note that no single cryptosystem can do all three operations: For instance RSA can do encryption and signing, while Diffie–Hellman can create shared secrets.

PNG is a raster graphics format. PNG has advantages over SVG including smaller filesize (due to less-than-optimal server-side SVG-to-raster conversion), more widely supported and often easier and faster to make simple changes to things such as borders.
