[1] The company changed its name to Sodexo Justice Services in 2011. [2] As of 2023, the company fully operates six prisons in the United Kingdom.
Plans also exist to further expand the prison to include a male section along the lines of HMP Peterborough (also run by Sodexo Justice Services), making it a dual prison holding males and females. Forest Bank Prison is a Category B local prison although the majority of the inmates are Category C. The term local means that the prison holds people on remand to the local courts as well as sentenced prisoners. Adult inmates at Forest Bank come from the courts in Bolton, Bury, Leigh and Wigan.
