The Denver Dry Goods Company, also known as "The Denver", was a department store which was established in the Denver Dry Goods Company Building in Denver, Colorado, in 1879 by Michael J. McNamara and L. H. Flanders as M. J. McNamara & Company. The firm was purchased and renamed to The McNamara Dry Goods Company in 1886 at 70 cents on the dollar.
A description on one postcard from 1916 read: "The Largest Store in the Central West, 400 Feet long-Seven Acres Floor Area, 1,200 Employees, A $1,500,000 Stock, 15th to 16th on California Street Denver Colorado". Joslins Department Store began as J. Joslins Dry Goods Store, founded by John Jay Joslin in 1873; it was a direct competitor to The Denver Dry Goods Company which commenced operations in 1888. The mall was developed by Denver-based Jordan Perlmutter & Co., the same company that built Northglenn Mall and Southwest Plaza. In 1987, May Department Stores purchased Associated Dry Goods, operator of The Denver. May D&F remained at Southglenn while The Denver's building was sold to JCPenney. In 1988, the mall's first renovation took place.
Pueblo Mall opened in 1976. Developed by The Hahn Company, it originally featured Montgomery Ward, The Denver Dry Goods Company, Joslins, and J. C. Penney as its anchor stores.
