Ford introduced the option of the F-Series in four-wheel drive. Previously a conversion outsourced to Marmon-Herrington, Ford was the first of the "big three" U.S. manufacturers to manufacture four-wheel drive trucks on its own. The fourth generation of the Ford F-Series is a line of trucks produced by Ford from the 1961 to 1966 model years. Introducing a lower and wider cab over the previous generation, Ford introduced several design changes to the model line. In line with modern pickup trucks, the bed sides, hood line, and window sill were all the same height.
A midyear introduction was the Hipo 352CI with 360 HP. This was Ford's first engine with over 1HP per cubic inch displacement. With the change in dimensions from 1959, the New York Times described the 1960 full-size Ford as the "longest, lowest, and widest in the fifty-six year history of the Ford Motor Company."
