Percival William Gibson CBE [1] (15 September 1893 [2] – 3 April 1970) was the Anglican Bishop of Jamaica from 1955 [3] until 1967. [4] He was educated at St. George's College [5] and London University [6] and ordained in 1918. His first posts were curacies at Golden Grove, Jamaica and St George's, Kingston. [7]
Glenmuir educates over 1,700 pupils, aged between 10 and 18 years. Glenmuir was founded in 1958 by the Rt. Reverend Percival William Gibson, then Bishop of Jamaica, as a private co-educational secondary school of the Anglican Diocese, on a 25-acre site in suburban May Pen.
Kingston College was founded in 1925 by Bishop of Jamaica, Dr. G.F.C. DeCarteret with Bishop Percival Gibson as the first headmaster. The school was envisioned as a remedy for the social deformity in which poor black boys were allowed primary education only.
He studied broadcasting and went on to work for RJR Radio in Canada for 19 years, before being ordained to the diaconate and priesthood by Percival Gibson in 1961. [1] After ordination he was appointed to St Mary the Virgin Church in Kingston, Jamaica. In 1970 he became Headmaster of Kingston College.
