Although the regular 61 laps were scheduled, only 59 were completed due to the two hours time limit being reached.
For 2022 season, "sprint qualifying" was renamed to "sprint". The weekend format remained unchanged from 2021 and was run at the Emilia Romagna , Austrian , and São Paulo Grands Prix with points now awarded to the top eight finishers rather than the top three finishers as was the case in 2021.
