It was formed on 11 April 2013 from the merger of the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales, Newport. [5] The university is the second largest university in Wales in terms of its student numbers, and offers around 500 undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The university has three main faculties across its campuses in South Wales.
Atrium (styled as ATRiuM), officially ATRiuM: Cardiff Faculty of business and Creative Industries and also known as ATRiuM Building, forms part of the Cardiff campus of the University of South Wales, along with Atlantic House in Tyndall Street. It is located in the Adamsdown area of Cardiff city centre, Wales.
Cultural events are regularly held at city library branches. The first city library opened in central Cardiff in 1861, followed by the city's first branch library in Splott in 1894. The latest building to serve as Central Library opened in 2009 as part of a major reconstruction of the eastern city centre, including the St. David's 2 project.
Much of the contents of the current Special Collections were originally housed in the old university library, now known as the Founder's Library, in the St. David's Building. This was built between 1822 and 1827, for the then enormous sum of £21,000; from 1837, the library was extended to house the collections donated by Burgess and Phillips.
The Royal Institution of South Wales was the first organisation in Wales to promote science programmes that were sponsored by the Department of Science and Art. [4] The Science Division afforded the Institution teachers in multiple departments of science, including geometry, geology, physics, chemistry, natural history, and mineralogy. [ 4 ]
