Stern, 67, spoke to PEOPLE about stepping away from Hollywood, becoming an artist and trying to accept his legacy as one of the most recognizable movie characters because of the 1990 holiday classic.
Despite the distance, both literally and figuratively, from the backlots of Hollywood, Stern's ranch and pottery studio make him feel like he's working "on a movie crew," he says.
