The George Washington Memorial Parkway, colloquially the G.W. Parkway, [3] [4] is a 25-mile-long (40 km) limited-access parkway that runs along the south bank of the Potomac River from Mount Vernon, Virginia, northwest to McLean, Virginia, and is maintained by the National Park Service (NPS).
The parkway is posted one-way southbound on weekdays from 6:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and one-way northbound from 3:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., federal holidays excepted. [8] The changeover requires four to five United States Park Police officers to travel the length of the parkway on motorcycle, manually placing barricades and cones and directing traffic.
It is named after former United States Representative (congressman) from Massachusetts and Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill Jr. (1912-1994), and located at 200 C Street Southwest in the Southwest Federal Center district, at the foot of Capitol Hill. [1]

Interstate 695 (I-695), also known as the Southeast Freeway, is a two-mile-long (3.2 km) auxiliary Interstate Highway in Washington, D.C.. [1] It travels from an interchange with I-395 south of the US Capitol building east then south across the 11th Street Bridges to an intersection with I-295 and District of Columbia Route 295 (DC 295) in Anacostia.
