The area of Rourkela is 200 square kilometers approximately. Being situated on the Howrah-Mumbai rail track, Rourkela had an added advantage of the steel plant being set up there. A new steel company, Bokaro Steel Limited (Bokaro Steel Plant), was incorporated on 29 January 1964 [6] [7] to construct and operate the steel plant at Bokaro.
