The VHS was later reissued by Sony Wonder in 1996. Sony Wonder released the special on DVD in 2004, and was reissued by Genius Entertainment and Warner Home Video in 2008 and 2010, respectively. The 2017 Amazon Video digital download release, reinstated the special's original title of Sesame Street Stays Up Late.
Sesame Street was conceived in 1966 during discussions between television producer Joan Ganz Cooney and Carnegie Foundation vice president Lloyd Morrisett.Their goal was to create a children's television show that would "master the addictive qualities of television and do something good with them," [16] such as helping young children prepare for school.
One such version, done with the cooperation of Sesame Workshop, [3] was released under the DJ Food name by Ninja Tune Records on a 12" EP [4] and the Zen TV DVD. The first volume, 1969–1974, was released by Sony Wonder in Region 1 (North America) on October 24, 2006.
