On August 1, 1873, Sidney Sherman passed away, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. J. M. O. Menard in Galveston, Texas. He breathed his last at 7:45 p.m., at the age of 68. He was originally buried near his wife and son, but was reinterred in 1894 in the Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston, next to one of his sons and his friend David G. Burnet.
